    Black and Silver number plates

Cars manufactured before Jan 1 1975 can legally use black and silver number plates:

I didn't know that until a friend passed it on!
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

It's now linked to historic status, so after 1st April all cars made before 1st Jan 1976 can wear them.

And I still can't understand why this should be the case.....

        Also some from 1960 – 1970 ‘s

I used them for a new set raised Y+B pair for my Stag – a huge difference & better than the plastic ones. Can highly recommend them
Took about a week from order to delivery.

Like Dave - I can't see the point of rolling exception to cover B+W Plates as they were changed around 1973 so that should be the cut off - maybe easier to do this as a package to the rules

Like those, Neil. Appropriate period, and keeps the safety visibility benefit, which is why they were introduced in the first place. Low on my list, but I'll keep in mind, thanks.

PS - back in the day, I remember coveting the "new" reflective plates!
White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

Forgetting what year qualifies for b+w number plates, carmine red is definitely suited to yellow (+ white) number plates imho.
          Nice car Neil

            Thanks Wilf,

            That's a very useful link which has cleared a lot of points up for me, and some of the info was very interesting, not least;

BTW B+W plates now roll forward with Historic (free) Tax class.

Let's not forget they also act as a visual reminder being reflective. I prefer yellow and white on a mk2 but I think it's looks more period on the mk1

Mine being black will suit black/white plates better especially with private plate. Tippers seem expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I got the metal black and silver plates for my MG and Vitesse from one of the "show plate" suppliers on fleabay- the quality was first class and at £15 a pair was a real saving

I shall be replating the Java beast next April, partly because I can and partly because I think it's more in keeping with the car

As reflective plates were introduced (not standardised) before the Stag was launched, I can't imagine many left the showroom with the 'old-fashioned' plates. Proud owners of a new, prestige, car would have wanted to appear forward looking and different to the next door neighbour with an old moggy thou.......
