    oil transfer housing

Hi all again... Aside from my wheel problem.... I now have an oil leak from what looks like the oil transfer housing/ pressure switch.. My question is.. how is the housing secured? Looks to me as though the oil pressure switch holds it on? I have access to a ramp can I get to it without taking off manifolds etc? Is it an easy job? I guess I can get the seal/ switch or whatever is the problem from LD or the like?
    Thanks in anticipation Steve.

Steve. The top of the transfer housing is held on by the bolt in the centre of it. Undo it and the top takes off. (no need to remove anything else). Under it are two "O" ring seals, both of which are readily available. It might be the pressure switch that is leaking, in which case it is much simpler to replace it while the transfer cover is off.
    Mike.

      Steve,

Be aware that the oil pressure switch has a tapered thread into a fragile aluminium casting. Guess what happens if you over tighten it?

I was about to say that there was a case a while back on here of a hairline fracture which didn't show after the pressure switch had been removed and the crack closed up.

Thank you all once again for your help, is the bolt under the pressure switch? Will I be able to do it from underneath on a ramp? Sorry for my ignorance! The Haynes manual says nothing about removal. I hope one day I will be able to be able to help someone else out!!!!!

Does this help Steve? The transfer housing bolt is BH606141. It can be done from above, but you may have to give the area a good clean in order to see what you are doing.

thank you once again!! it is difficult to see the bolt from above as it is hidden by the pressure switch, As I am going to have the car on a ramp to change the oil etc I guess it will be easier from underneath?
                  Thanks again Dave and Milo

also... From the take off to the oil pressure switch I gave the oil pressure guage take off... Does this complicate things? or should i just undo the switch and itwill come off as well
                    Thanks again Steve

Manual or auto? Shouldn't make a difference but it does as the trans cooler pipes lurk just where you want to be. Take off the oil filter for sure, and if you unbolt the oil pump too (which needs the RH down pipe to come off) you'll get enough room to undo that centre bolt. The oil gauge is usually attached to a t piece, the t piece threaded into the transfer housing, and then the gauge Union and switch go into the t piece (usually but yours could be different).

A 9/16 socket, on a longish 3/8 drive ratchet that has a swivel head is what I use to remove the transfer housing, and the same for refitting - just make sure the housing is correctly located on its dowel when you put it back on or it'll leak or oil pressure is affected.

If your current transfer housing is cattled, you can also use one from the Dolomite 1850 and Sprint, plus the TR7 so increasing your odds of finding one

Hi and thanks for your help, it is an auto, the pressure guage pipe branches off before the pressure switch. hopefully should be able to get at it preferably from underneath I guess? When you say cattled what does that mean? Forgive my ignorance!!!!
                        Regards Steve
