    cam covers

    Had a look inside my cam covers yesterday,and they've had the wire gauze/filer cut out of them,what can i use, and where would i get it from

              The gauze you refer to is a flame trap. On my project I have used rover ones as in the picture above rather than the in built one that the stag cover has. Just thought it may be easier than welding the cam cover as someone must have cut yours about.

                    And the P6 flame trap is a better option in my opinion Dave, as it will just mean cutting a rubber hose to fit it - no major work required

                      I have a rebuilt engine that runs nicely, but I was getting a lot of oil coming out of the cam cover. I found that using a catch can filled with new gauze seems to condense the oil vapour, and when the can is raised above the cam cover it self-drains oil back into the cover rather than getting sucked into the engine. So I no longer lose any oil. I can only conclude that my cam cover breather must be clogged, and if it was restored maybe I would not need the catch can/extra flame trap.
