I'll have to send mine off for build date correction as it was built Oct 76 but not registered until June 77 - if I go to post Office, I would have to wait until April 2018, current VED runs out October so I'll just give it a 6 months ticket and get a refund on the spare monthLast edited by GDPR; 17 March 2016, 00:20.

My car is 40 this September, it doesn't qualify for free tax until 1 April 17 anyway, at least it will be tax free one day

I am going to send a copy first off - some people have said DVLA have accepted that, and if they don't then I suppose I'll have to send the original - firstly because my pal finally had his heritage certificate returned - albeit not until after his MP got them to "reconsider" their original action, and restore his original reg number, and secondly it's only the cost of another stamp if they don't accept it. Thirdly there is the relative cost - if they fail to return the certificate but change the build date in their records, the cost of replacing the certificate is a quarter of the cost of the VED I'd have to pay for another year so the I get the 40 years on first registration date..
I have 13 months to get it done so it's not like I'm on a deadline

This is a wonderful piece of mis-representation, quoted from the Government website:
"The VED exemption is intended to support classic vehicles, which the government considers are an important part of the country’s historical and cultural heritage."
We all know that it costs more to collect car tax from old vehicles than the amount they collect. This is quite simply a cost-saving exercise.Richard

For what it is worth I would support scrapping tax on all vehicles and putying the cost onto the fuel, and I live in a rural area and have to use a car (or bike).
