    Overheated Stag!

    Hi All

Going to work this morning ... first time used the Stag for a few weeks (been using MGB instead ... how dare I!) Stuck behind a bin lorry ... Stag temp gauge showed just over 1/2 way. Thought OK, not bad given sitting in traffic. Got past lorry - but gauge kept on going up until it nearly hit the red and it started to pink. Thought s**t and pulled over ...

Now Stag recovered to garage awaiting a diagnosis on the patient!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Alan

Assuminglast time you used it was OK, and there's planty of coolant in there, you may have a stuck thermostat.

Also check your (viscous) enginefan is working.

Divine retribution for using an inferior mode of transport and ignoring the Stag???

              Hi

Just got off the phone to the garage ... initial inspection suggests a core plug - there is water in vee apparently!

              Easy fix?

              Cheers

More likely to be inlet manifold gaskets than core plugs, but my psychic powers are down today so cannot be more precise......:dude::dude:

                      Hi All

Just got off the phone to the garage. They have cleaned the engine and it isn;t the core plug(s) ... ummm ... a specialist engine builder has said it could be a cracked head which sounds bad (and probably expensive!).

My garage is getting another opinion on Monday. But I've suggested that I take to a specialist Stag garage - so my question is can anyone recommend one in my area - either Buckinghamshire or North - North/West London, Berkshire ... that sort of region?

I'm very keen to get this sorted ASAP as I have just sold my MGB GT ... so I could use the Stag!

                      Cheers

                      Alan

If there's water in the V it could bewater pump seal failure a core plug, or as Kryten says inlet manifold gaskets. Problem is these could be a symptom of the overheating not the original cause.

Does it immediately overheat when you start it up and run it up to temperature or does it take awhile? and how much water is leaking?

                            Hi

Of course ... heard good things and didn't realise Acton is just off the North Circular - that's a Northerner for you!

                            Cheers
