    Water in footwell!

    Hi all!,
Need help trying to find out where the water is getting in and settling in the footwells.
Is this a common problem and is it likely to be the windscreen seals?

    Thanks in advance
    Ian

Mine was due to an incorrect hardtop front seal.

Peter at LD knows a thing or two about water in the footwells, try phoning him.

If you are talking about a car that has been standing, try the wiper gaskets. Mine had perished.

My money would be on the heater valve or matrix as well.

If it is the matrix, the demister will probably have the opposite affect as it blows moisture laden warm air at the windscreen which then condenses. Depends on where the leak is of course! I have also had a leak where the pipe came loose where it enters/leaves the matrix.

          Regards

So - does this happen if the car is stored in the dry or out in the rain? That would be the clue to heater/windscreen/wiper probs. Come on, get your deer stalker on and suck your pipe.
If you have a yellow car, the door would be a lemon entry my dear Watson.

Maybe the Heater box itself? Haven't looked at a Stag one in any detail yet but most cars have a heater box drain for the water that goes down from the outside fresh air intake. When the drain blocks, water overflows into the footwells.

              Good Luck

If you don't have a water curtain fitted correctly behind the door trims, you get water coming into the footwells.

Thanks to all your answers! It only happens when it rains (and the car is kept on the drive!) so I think we can eliminate the
Heater matrix. Hard top seal and door rubbers are a good shout and will also check w/wiper seals!
                    Thanks once again!

Are the vertical sill carpets damp? I still put money on the doors.
Rains pours down the side window glass, into the door, and under the door trim straight into the car if the rain curtain not fitted correctly.

Get your head down into the footwell and look up under the dash (use a torch) and inspect the bottom of the windscreen surround for rust streaks. it is highly likely that the seal isn't doing its job either because it is old, the surround is rusty, or repairs have been carried out badly.

Another possibility not mentioned could be that water entering the gap between the front wing and scuttle is getting through rust holes in the inner wing. Hopefully this is not the case.......

If you can't get your head under the dashboard, your hand will certainly fit. Feel along the the inside of the bottom of the dashboard and the verticals by the A posts for water and/or rust.

Good suggestion, I've found that in the past by chalking the door rubbers and looking for any tracks later. It's a bugger with Black trousers though!

+1 for door seals . Well worth replacing them if the rubber is tatty or the furlex is tired as for £22 each new ones can really brighten up a tired interior, especially if it's non-black.
