That was due to Ford's ownership of JLR at the time. I think some Jaguars, Astons and Volvos may also have benefitted from Ford's patent whilst under their ownership. It is a pity that Ford weren't of the same mind as Volvo when they invented the seat belt and made it freely available to all car manufacturers to copy......

Heated front screens are still available on Range Rovers, at a cost!!

I think the Chimaera is one of the nicest looking TVRs ever produced. I heard that the cut-out for the front sidelights was caused when the TVR boss's (can't remember his name) dog took a bite out of the first mock up mould, and he said "I like that - we'll keep it".

TVR used to be based at Blackpool where I was working in the 70's, and the aforesaid Boss showed me round where they made them when I called round one day saying I was interested in purchasing one myself (a much older/cheaper model than the Chimaera), but in the end I opted to buy a new Triumph Spitfire.

Thanks, yes its TVR folklore that the boss's dog bit the clay moulded model and that became the indicator housing. They changed the style slightly on the later version which mine is, but the indicator is very similar! I think the Chimaera has a kind of ageless look where some sports cars date quickly.
I have been up to where the old factory was sited and there are a number of small business's operating out of whats left, some specialising on TVR's. Some really decent people dedicated to supporting the TVR fraternity. I think much of the factory has been pulled down now though.
tVR is now owned by Les Edgar and the new model is due out next year, they are using a tuned ford V8 which looks interesting. I came very close to sticking a deposit down on one of the special edition first cars but i know my passion is really keeping the older stuff on the road.
Fwiw she drives superbly and very smooth, despite having nitron racing shocks and lowered suspension now. And when you want her to go she certainly does
she keeps my Stag company and i have a only V8's allowed policy

Not sure how old your Audi is, but my 2014 A3 has an electric heater for the cabin air that comes on below 5-degrees and clears the windscreen. It isn't an electric clear view in the same mould as the Ford type.

Bit late to the thread on this one, but IIRC my mates Mum had a Datsun Cherry (remember them?), when they first came out. That had an electric heater.
