Don't forget the lever effect of the trailing arms.
If the spring is half way between the suspension pivot point and the contact patch of the tyre then 5mm under the spring will translate as 10mm at the wheel, two of them would give 20mm, and if you factor in greater compressibility of the rubber spring insulators compared to the poly then 25mm/1 inch is quite feasible.

Neil pointed this out to me on another thread about my ride height and was confirmed by Trevor at Faversham, they were right

Out of interest, is there any reason why these thicker ones can't be fitted to the top of the coils rather than putting the on the trailing arm end? I say this as I have the standard ones fitted and there is such little rubber between the top of the coil and the body shell that I question their effectivenessYellow Rules OK

I fitted mine in the trailing arm as I felt, being thicker, they sat in a deeper well.Originally posted by Andrew S View PostOut of interest, is there any reason why these thicker ones can't be fitted to the top of the coils rather than putting the on the trailing arm end? I've got the 'modern' poly type fitted top and bottom of the spring and the car does sit a bit higher now (with the same springs as before the restoration). I had always assumed it was due to the less compressive poly ones and it's nice to see that confirmed!

Maybe I should refit the old rubber ones. I have a load from previous big saloon rebuilds!
