Holiday & U.K. visit.

Following on from a weeks holiday by Lake Garda in Italy in a couple of weeks time, my wife and I are spending 5 days in London before moving on to see our daughter in Chelmsford, Essex, then flying back home to Tenerife from Stanstead.

The misses says it is years since she saw any good shows in the Capitol, and wants to spend her evenings in the West End or wherever else there might be a show she fancies. Can't remember the last time we were in London (other than just passing through), are there any Classic Car shows going on whilst we are there, or any local Stag events?

In London we are staying at the Waterloo (by Westminster Bridge) Premier Inn from May 13th to May 18th.

Hoping to have a new alternator fitted on my car before we go, otherwise have to bring one back with me in a suitcase.

+1 for Jersey Boys. Have also been told that "Motown" is amazing but not seen it myself yet. Depending on your taste but incredibly emotional and spectacular is "Miss Saigon". The Vietnam reset of the opera Madame Butterfly. I saw the original production at Drury Lane some 25 years ago and recently saw the new production - I would go again!

Regret cannot offer any off the cuff classic car events while you are here, but will explore and report any that you might find interesting during your stay.

Thanks for that - Not the same choice of U.K. Classic Car mags over here, but will buy one when over.
Are you visiting Tenerife itself in December, or one of the other Islands?
Xmas and New Year is our busiest time here.

Nostrum resort every December for my birthday just a short walk from your place ,we no longer go over Christmas since we both retired far too expensive however we now get two or three holidays for the price of one CHristmas / new year holiday so very early DEcember we'll be hopefully in the warm winter sun. God willing

The Local Council has done a lot of reburbishment of the roads and walkways in that part of Las Americas this year, and we often go for a meal at one of the restaurants overlooking the "Dancing Fountains" opposite where you stay. December 11th is my birthday and that is when I really start to get into the spirit of Xmas which lasts for a long time out here as the locals, as well as the "British" Xmas, have their main celebration on 3 Kings Day on January 6th.

Thanks for the Link, but the Bank Holiday weekend we will still be here in Tenerife, and don't leave for Lake Garda in Italy till the 6th of May, then return to London and Chelmsford 13th to 20th. When we lived in North Wales would always attend the Llandudno Festival of Transport the May Bank Holiday weekend where there would be a SOC presence and lots of Classic Cars besides lots of other things going on. Last one I attended was back in 1999 and I made (a not very good) video of it (see Link below).

Sorry I missed the section on other events in your Link, but have now checked them and there don't appear to be any in the London/Chelmsford areas when we are there.

Speaking of the old camcorder footage of the 1999 event - I wonder if any of the Stags shown belong to Forum members on here?

Recently returned from a trip to Lake Garda followed by 5 days spent sightseeing and seeing a couple of shows in London.
The misses had booked to see "Wicked" first as that was the show she most wanted to see, and the following night the "Jersey Boys" as that was the show I wanted to see.

Surprisingly I was more impressed with "Wicked" than the "Jersey Boys" whereas I thought beforehand the opposite would be the case.

One up to the misses and she also surprised me when she saw a Nissan Figaro (small retro car) for the 1st time and said she liked it, as she normally has no interest in any sort of Classic Car apart from the Stag.
Saw quite a few "Figaros" driving about in Central London, plus lots of expensive "Supercars" (see attached pics).

On one of our trips on the sightseeing "Big Buses", we were quite surprized to see a film crew come on board to film the Canadian "Tenors" who had the previous night sung for the Queen at her Birthday Show, and they sat down next to us on the top deck and then got up and sang "O Solo Mio" as the Bus passed Big Ben.

They were really nice fellas and happy to pose for a photo, but when they asked us where we were from they had no idea where Tenerife was. Apparently the Bus filming was part of a promotional video they were making. Last photo below is one of them posing for a photo with the misses.
