    Steering Wheel

    Hi All,

I have a Mota Lita 14" wood rim Steering wheel which I find feels a bit "thin" so I am thinking of getting a 14" leather wheel.

Does anyone know if the mounting boss holes are "standard" i.e. are Mota Lita boss's the same as Mountney.

Or does anyone have a suitable leather wheel, not a standard "thin" one.

im using a standard mk2 wheel, but i stuck leather round it to build up the thickness,i bought a leather cover to sew on,not done that yet as the leather i used to thicken it up was red, and you can see it through the perforations of the cover,so i need to dye the steering wheel before i fit the cover, but you get the idea

      Nigel,

I fitted the 14" Motalita leather wheel (think from Paddocks) because that was available with slots similar to the original. Well pleased with the additional rim thickness ~30m which, together with the additional cushioning means my hands are less prone to cramp up. Only downside is the highly polished spokes which can give annoying reflections in full sun.

I looked at the Mountney ones as well. These were priced better. The boss for theirs has holes that accommodate both the Mountney and Motalita wheels, but the Motalita boss only matches Motalita wheels. Check out Sussex Classic Cars for the Mountney - they were very helpful to me (think they also offer a Stag emblem boss, pricey but cool!).

        Hi Jonno,

Sorry missed your response, to busy decorating !! just get timer a quick look late evenings, I think I'll follow you and go for the Mota Lita, I suffer the same as you, big hands thin wheel, cramp when hanging on for grim life driving the Stag .

Dave thanks for the suggestion but my sewing skills area bit ropey to say the least.
