Stag picture

Hi, a long while ago I bought this framed picture of a Stag and was wondering of anyone knew the artist of previously owned it. The glass came cracked but underneath it you can see the artist signature and it mentions a 1975 Stag. On the actual picture it seems there is a 1998 date?

Andrew,
I think it's from a limited edition run and the 98 refers to the total number of prints run off. I think there's a number before it (x/98) where x is the sequence number of your print (the general concensus in arty circles being that the smaller the "x" number, the better the print), as the plate wears with every one).

No idea re the artist, though.

Might be a bit of a long shot, but you could try the Guild of Motoring Artists - (there is a website) If you can make out any of the artist's name (or at least first letter of his Surname you might be able to trace it from there. i tried to magnify the image but unfortunately the crack and a bit of glare on the glass comes right in the crucial area. Looks like a nice print - that style of paining is really iconic for car portraits.
