    PDWA problem

I have said on another thread about the warning device on my car haviing been disconnected and replaced with sawn off bolt, so being quite chuffed with having made this. IMG_0769 (Medium).jpg with little more than a grinder, drill and file I came to look more closely at the PDWA in preparation for refilling and bleeding the brake system.

Removed the PDWA to fit the above and I can't get what I think is the shuttle, to move.

I take it that the tiny silver thing at the bottom of the threaded hole is the shuttle? IMG_0767 (Medium).jpg I have (gently) tried moving it with a jeweller's screwdriver, but it isn't budging.
Apart fom applying extra force, does anyone have any suggestions about freeing it?

    Hi Barry,
It's a long time since I did mine, but I remember stripping it and cleaning,,then buying a new switch to screw in.
I've found this picture ,if it helps-

    From a Spitfire but similar.
    Ken.
PS. You could spray WD into it and take the end bush out, then with a small screwdriver, prize it sideways.

Think I removed the cap at the end of the shuttle and hydraulically pumped it out with grease.

Think I removed the cap at the end of the shuttle and hydraulically pumped it out with grease through one of the back ports, probably blocked off the others then cleaned the grease off.

Thanks guys. That picture is particularly helpful Ken. I'll remove the cap and see what it is like inside.

Hi Barry Ive just overhauled mine about 3 weeks ago as part of my restro an I ended up removing the big nut with the copper washer on the valve, then slackened the brake pipe that makes the shuttle move towards the big nut then rap a rag round the valve so as not to loose any bits and not get brake fluid over the paint, then get someone to press the brake to hydraulic the plunger out similar to what stagdad has done

The big nut is proving difficult; or at least it was lst night when I had a few minutes spare when SWMBO was out of the house. I'll give it another go today.

I think playing with your nuts whilst SWMBO is out of the house is an entirely different topic......

Got a grip today (whilst SWMBO was in the house), after a night of soaking my nut in WD40. It was a fight but the bugger eventually yielded. The shuttle came out, (compressed air and shock), looking very sorry for itself, all gunged up. Got everything cleaned and refitted. Now have to look at the master cylinder as it isn't passing fluid to the rear brakes.
My suspicion now is there was a fault with the master cylinder and rather than dealing with it, the PDWA sensor was disconnected, replaced with a bolt and the wires cut close to the loom to save the warning light coming on.
