I need to elongate the slots in my door hinges to get the door gaps correct. Is there a drill attachment available that will save me having to use a circular file?
I use a carbide burr for that type of thing. Go easy though they can be savage, especially if you have a die grinder. They can be used in a battery drill which is less aggressive but I prefer the die grinder. Mainly because I don't like putting continuous sideways force on my drill chuck.

Simon. There is normally a huge amount of adjustment available by way of the movement of the threaded plates to which the doors are bolted inside the "A" post, and also from the slotted holes in the door frame. I have never heard of anyone needing to elongate the holes in the hinges. Perhaps the A post plates have got stuck? I would slacken all the bolts off a bit, then heave the open door about to see if it frees off.
Mike.
Then I realised that the door needed to 'grow' with weld instead of moving its position, due to the skin being slightly short of the wing / b post / rear wing.
Make sure the seals work against the window frame before moving the door too much for /aft to suit the gaps, because the window surround cannot move too much for / aft.
It is a strange one. I have changed the hinges due to pin wear for a pair of good used ones. Previously the door was more or less central in the aperture, but a bad quality replacement skin meant the gap at the rear top (next to the handle) was too wide- I'll be welding this today.
With the new hinges fitted and adjusted, the door is too far forward, with no option to adjust further. When I checked the old hinges, the three slots had been elongated to allow this extra movement.
Everything is solid, i.e no rot in the A post, so I think I'll just follow the previous idea and stretch the holes.
Julian, good tip re window frame, as it's currently not fitted to the door. I'll trial fit before the car gets painted.
So I'll see if screwfix or halfrauds have either a carbide burr or rat tail file today.
Done! The holes were elongated with a file, a bit of fabrication, welding, primer and my door fits properly for the first time. I'm happy with the results.... nearly ready for the respray now
