    Which battery fits

Just spent to day trying to find a battery to fit my Stag without a lot of luck. I haven't got the old one, as started the restoration about 10 years ago!

I'm told a 072 is the correct one, but I don't think it will fit my car. The dimensions of the 072 appear to be about258L * 175W * 225H. The battery compartment on my car is 250L * 160W. I suspect the original battery was 6in* 9in, or 153mm * 228mm?

Anymore longer than 250mm and there is no room for the stay along side the battery.Any wider than160mm and it fouls on the wheel arch.

My car has had the battery box replaced during the restoration, so wondering if the replacement is too small. I really hope it isn't.

Anybody else had trouble getting a battery to fit, or measurements for original battery box?

    Thanks.....

O69 is the correct battery and fairly inexpensive from local motor factors I think mine was about £50 earlier this year.

      Thanks,

But, the 069 battery appears to be266L * 175W * 220H which is too large to fit my car where the battery area is 250L * 160W.

Is there something odd here? Could somebody measure their battery compartment for me?

Paul, there is some good info on the correct battery type and dimensions here:

Thanks Andy, I've seen the info on the LD Parts website, but again, the battery size it quotes is too large for my car being 265mm * 175mm!

              Hi Paul

Just been out and measured the battery on my Stag.

              265 x 165mm

Not sure whether this helps or not.

I was going to put the metel ruler on the battery in the photo until I noticed at the last moment that the only place it would have worked would have shorted the terminals:shock:

I have a type 071 on mine which fits quite snugly.

I have an 072 (heavy duty version of 071). I know at least two other cars with an 069.

I remember when I was restoring my car that battery boxes were supplied in several parts and you had to weld them together rather than being a single unit. Sounds like whoever did yours hasn't got it right.

This site may help you to get a battery thet fits:

I don't know what battery mine has in it off the top of my head, but it is so small the person who originally put it in has put a couple of bits of 2x1 under it to enable the clamp to work properly. It has always been sufficient to get me started. If I remember I will have a look and see what sort it is.

OK I've managed to get one to fit. After a lot of measuring and research, I settled on a 069 and it dropped straight in with much relief. It was a tight fit...

Thanks for all your help and suggestions...
