    Inlet tract length.

Does anyone know the average length of the inlet tract in the head? measured from inlet manifold face to back of inlet valve.

Please don't take off your manifolds to measure.

    Thanks.

    Hi John
Just been in garage mine measure rh head 57.62 mm 57.26. Mm 57.40. Mm 57.20 mm .this measurement is taken from face of inlet manifold to the face of the valve the valve I used is a brand new one and its measures 7.91 mm

    Cheers. Glenn

Are you looking to shift the peak torque rpm John? Shame we couldn't adapt the Rover 827 dual tract inlet manifold - that made a massive difference and I'm assuming your ECU could be programmed to operate it

        What's this for John?
I can do any measuring on my second engine when I get home, no manifolds on it now.

Hi Steve, Thanks for getting my kit ready I'll pick it up at Le Mans very reasonably priced as well considering all the work you put into it. I'm calling mine injectodad

            Hi Russ and Steve.
I had the car on the rollers last week, final tuning gave 20% rise in power and 23% rise in torque. The "problem" is that they both peak around 3500rpm, which is great for drivability as its a ZF. Power is around 145bhp, about the same as standard engine but sits low down the rev range compared to 6000+rpm before.
At 3500rpm power is over 50% greater than it was with previous carb.

Our engine tuning expert Neil suggests that my trumpets may be wrong length hence the question. Do I keep with a lazy engine or get the top end higher which should be impressive.

It was the major difference between the 825 and 827 V6 - the 825 was flat as a fart below 3k which was ok ish on a manual, but the auto was a disaster. Most people had gone from the SD1 V8, which had similar bhp but vastly more torque. Such was the flop of the V6 800 series initially, the British engineers, not the Honda ones came up with the dual tract manifold that automatically went from long to short at 3000 rpm - turned that engine into a tree stump puller that pulled all the way to 6k

And said tree stump appears hurtling through your back window when the ground releases it's hold!
