The K&N oil filter saga continues ( for thoes still interested)

For those that remember me recommending the HP2009 as it had a bypass valve in the top of the canister only to discover when I cut one open that is was in the bottom I have a new discovery. Before cutting open the old/used filter I ordered a replacement as a spare which has been sitting on the shelf, today I opened up the box to look at the filter ( for no apparent reason ) only to discover that this K&N HP 2009 has the bypass at the top The only reason I can put this down to is the one with the bypass at the bottom was made in Mexico but the one with the bypass valve at the top ( the new one ) was made in Korea. Now I am thinking the the spec varies depending where it made.

Interesting, perhaps they are making a Korea out of it.

Glad I didn't throw mine away after all now.

Had to filter through the reports to remind myself of the abuse you took Graham.

Just checked my spare in the garage. It's made in Mexico.

Was puzzled at first as to what you all were talking about but gather these are for spin on mod? I did toy with idea of fitting this mod but having found how easy it is to change the bowl filter, I will spend my money on something else - contribution to Pertronix perhaps?

Just checked the spare in my garage, also made in Mexico but the box it is in says made in the USA. The box has a picture of a breakdown of the filter which clearly shows an anti drain back valve at the top. So far i have not noticed any real difference to any other filter but perhaps i wont until its too late.

I think the boxes show all the same picture. When you say top for me the top is the threaded end. You wont notice any difference but for me when the valve opens I prefer that the oil is returned straight back into the engine rather than wash over the filter element.

                              Hi Graham.
Just had a look and no spring fitted like yours.
