    Exhaust hanger rubbers

I have just fitted on a friends Stag a set of supposedly "softer rubbers, not like those cheap hard types", so that advert said.
They were as good as rock hard and I cant help thinking that there must be so much resonance from the exhaust that goes straight through to the boot floor and car

Are there any alternatives of softer ones?

    Cheers

Andrew. I have had the same problem. The ones presently available are useless, and I have tried various suppliers. They are so hard that I found them impossible to fit, and there was a danger of bending/breaking the metal hangars in the process. As you commented, I can't see them being much use even if you could fit them.
I have now got a set which are made for a different make of car, and they do the job perfectly. Simple to fit, and just flexible enough. They were obtained from a well known Stag specialist a few miles north of here (?) who have also given up on the useless ones. I'm sure they will be able to sell you some.
Why can't spares like this be made properly? It costs no more to use the right rubber. I suppose they just can't be bothered, as long as the shape is about right.

        Hi Mike,

Most places are north from you, who is it, I don't think there is an issue in naming them is there?

Guessing it's this one, Nigel. LD Part is always my first port of call. Got one to fit sometime soon.

Could well be Jonno, just thought that it would be easy enough to name them, can't see an issue, just make it easier for slow folk like me !

                Thanks Mike.
It's a Shane we can't have super flex ones so they wont break either.
                Cheers

Bob. I'm afraid it is none of those mentioned. In fact two of them only had the useless ones. I got them in Faversham!!

Funny you should mention Superflex Andrew as I'm not entirely convinced that Superflex offers the same damping qualities as rubber.
Certainly on the rear exhaust hangers I have that are blue Superflex they are no longer - gone as hard as brick and the ones on the gearbox cross member mounting too after less than a year.
It's a shame the tooling fund can't look at rubber mountings really but I guess there are so many it would be prohibitive.

Mike. With my Tooling Fund hat on, the sad thing is that the tools-the expensive items-are out there, so we are not needed. But then the parts are made from them using rubbish rubber, over which we have no control. I know for a fact that it only costs pennies more to have them made in something that will last at least as well as the originals. To be cynical, perhaps the people selling them don't want them to last, but I hope you will find that Tooling Fund sponsored stuff will do so.
                        Mike.

Same problem for me during the resto project, in the end I used copper slip to get them on, goodness knows if they will last.

I read somewhere a long time ago that Waxoyl not only helps the fitting of rubber parts such as this, but is good for their ageing.
I use it on things such as damper mountings, exhaust hangers, etc.
