    No more convoys.

Have a read of this http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-...ers-in-harlow/
Though the article is about motorcycles being banned from two or more riding together, it says, "and other vehicles".
If this catches on, it wont just be Harlow where it will be an imprison-able offense for two Stags to go for a drive together.
I will try and bring this to the attention of a few motoring enthusiast MPs I talk to.

    Excessive noise.
Danger to other road users including pedestrians.
Damage or risk of damage to private property.
Any nuisance to other persons not participating in the unauthorised ride
Driving at excess speed.Driving in convoy.
    Racing another motor vehicle.
    Performing stunts.
    Sounding horns.
    Playing loud music.
    Dropping litter.
Shouting or swearing at, threatening or otherwise intimidating others

Do we really think that a small collection of Stag owners behaving the way they normally do will clash with any of these rules ? I suspect not.

We have similar troubles locally with hot hatches being raced between two islands on a dual carriage way close to us and the local council used a banning order applied to meetings of more than two people ! that's an interpretation of the Riot Act ! However as a local that occasionally has to use the road I couldn't see a problem with the councils order, the dangerous selfish actions of a couple of hundred people needed curtailing, I'm glad they were.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, I think Stags driving in convoy might clash with the injunction against driving in convoy.

Hmmmm. We get a great many "convoys" here on the Isle o shy*e: it's called traffic... .

Old VW's fart their trumpy tune on their summer sojourn and the scooterers clatter their old tin cans around, in great buzzing swarms, trailing the aromatic stench of burning chip fat. Of course, we also have any amount of steam powered iron mongery wobbling, wheezing and whistling along our quaint old roads on the odd occasion - it's still used as public transport.... .

I believe it's all known, locally, as wealth-on-wheels... , or, by the less scrupulous of our community, "Good morning Sir/Madam/Grockle; how may we assist you in the emptying of your well stuffed wallet today?"

I know it can be irritating, for those who have no interest in such silliness, but Morris Dancers seem to get away without censure: I mean - really...? Come on..... .

Makes a change for us North of the smoke to send laws down sarf? The Black Country ( Dudley, Sandwell ) and areas of Birmingham have had "No Cruising" legislation for some time. Resulted from yoofs racing their Scoobys, Evo's, and other turbo' cars around the shopping centres roads, dual carriageways and roundabouts etc. Proper dangerous, noisy and a nuisance - not musical like our Stags.

Don't think they've ever applied it to Stags, MG'sor the like, don't know about a convoy of MX 5's though?Ian F

The existing traffic laws are sufficient to enable the Police to deal with unruly motorists, irrespective of the vehicles concerned. This is a blow to freedom of assembly and freedom of association which are rights that were only finally won in the UK around a hundred years ago, largely through the persistence of the trade unions.

This simply confirms my growing suspicion that we are governed by nasty minded bureaucrats who are haunted by the dread fear that someone, somewhere, is going happily about his own business unobstructed by the state.

Agreed. Smacks to me of councillors wanting to persuade their community that they're doing something to prevent a perceived nuisance. All those items listed are already offences the Police can enforce unde either traffic laws or others.

When I was organising the 2008 ESM in Ashford, I advised Kent police that we would be driving on certain days in groups of 12 Stags, gave them our route and they thanked me. I heard that they even looked out for us.

Self explanatory really, if you organise a run or convoy with multiples of cars in it and advise the police of intended route they tend to think you're a responsible organiser and unlikely to cause any problems, and of course you were.
It's when somebody advertises on social media and doesn't put anything in place that it goes pearshaped, yahoos and undesirables who do all the things that the original posting feared cause such a problem that it screws with society, that's who the local council is trying to get at.

Here is a petition to sign if you are worried that this might set an example for other councils to follow.

I understand what you're saying, Mickey and I am sure that the original motive was at least partially high minded as you imply. The problem is that there is always some jack in office who will misuse legislation to either stifle dissent or curtail freedom. As I said before, the existing traffic laws are strong enough to deal with misbehaviour. If the police are concerned about public order, they don't even have to stop offenders at the time. They can simply video the convoy and prosecute offenders later. After all that's what they do with speeding and traffic light or sign offences.
