Where are all of the classic cars

    Hi all

I went for a little trip out for a coffee at North Weald airfield yesterday (a cracking café btw). My 1 year old and me in the Stag, and my father in law and wide in his Morgan! A lovely drive on the back roads and out for a few hours (including watching some planes at North Weald!).

I was very surprised not to see loads of classics on the road - it was surprisingly quiet. Any ideas why? It was a lovely morning with sun and blue sky as well - maybe we just timed it badly (or there was a dodgy forecast we missed!)!

I am looking forward to seeing more out over the coming weeks...

    Cheers

Well, there was about 60 classic cars driving around Wiltshire on the inaugural Colne Rotary Classic Car Run. Two Stags and a right mixture of others including a 1928 Fiat, several E-types and a Land Rover. We had a grand day out!

There were over 300 at Faversham on Sunday for the Faversham Festival of Transport. Put it in your diaries for next year. It's a great show, they close the town and park all the classics in the streets. Pubs are open, bands play. A good day out. See www.faversham.org/carshow

At the invitation of the City Council on Sunday our local classic car club were invited to park 25 cars around Cambridge City centre market.

We met up at an out of town supermarket car park and then drove in to the city centre in convoy. This was necessary to meet the timing when the rising bollards on the entry route via Trinity Street would definitely be down!

The reaction as we drove down Trinity street was amazing. We were actually cheered and applauded and even by then would have been facebooked, whatsapped etc all over the world!

Having parked up the interest from tourists and locals was incredible. A lot of it was remarkably intelligent.

        Notably:-

One guy who was thinking of buying a Stag he knew of but it had an RV8?

An American who thought I had a Buick ally derivative (i.e. an RV8)

A young couple from Yorkshire who had the job of disposing of an apparently family OK and runs Stag but not sure what its real condition is . Told them to contact SOC to get contacts with members near them who can assess condition/pricing etc.

Another guy who said our car was the only V8 on show and asked for it to be started up and to look under bonnet and the came back an said "best car on display" ( a concours judge I think not!)

To put this in perspective it is over 30 years since any public parking in the market square in Cambridge has been permitted except a limited number of taxis and even disabled is by prior arrangement only as access bollards have to be lowered.

Notwithstanding this parking in the near city centre car parks is astronomic and the same on sundays.

So incredible day, inc free parking in the middle of town. So I get great day and SWMBO has great day with free parking and over 4 hours shopping!

Also got vouchers to get free food from market foodstalls!

To find the photos on facebook please search "Cambridge in the olden days" and scroll down

Using mine pretty much as the daily driver, not car shows specifically. I've seen various MGBs, a few Morgans (they never seem to wave back ), XK 150, a couple of E types...the list goes on. Plus one other Stag (carmine red) locally, and travelled back from York in convoy with a GT6 who gave a big thumbs up before peeling off in Leeds direction.
So, we are certainly on the roads up here!

The Morgan drivers are probably too scared to take their hands off the wheel!

On the way back to Crewe on Sunday from the NYTW event at Runswick Bay, I think we passed four other classics. Not a lot given the time of year, nice weather and distance.

                    Hi Bruce
Knaresborough is a gem of a place and of course much older than its upstart neighbour Harrogate! Unfortunately had to miss out on the NYTW event this year (went last year) due to long-standing family get together in Northumberland. Another gem of an area and we got the good weather too .
