    Rear seat belts

I notice Rimmers are offering the rear seat belts on offer until the end of the year, both the 3 point and 2 point options. I would like to fit a pair as my little girl is getting bigger (4 next spring, so boostercushion possibility I believe), and Mum wants her front seat back!

The 2 point appears straight forward, not too sure about the 3 point as I assume this option was never 'factory' regarding the fixing points & operation.

Has anyone fitted the 3 point with any experiance to share, as this option appears to be safer than the 2 point of course.

    Photo's would be good too!

    Thanks,

    Mike.

I had the three point ones fitted by Faversham Classic when I bought the car in June.

I will take some shots for you as soon as its dry

I have the 3 point belts removed for bodywork at the moment, but if/when the car gets back on the road I would consider changing to the lap belt. As I reassemble things around the hood well I intend to check, if I can, just how direct the route of the shoulder strap is and whether it gets moved when the hood is stowed. If I can be certain that there is no possibility of any slack i.e. a straight run at all times from top mount to shoulder, then I'll keep the 3 point ones.

Any opinions from anyone who's done a similar exercise?

      John.

There are already mounting holes for the two point, under the rear seat and on the front of the rear wheel arches.

If you want to fit three point you create a further mounting point at the top of the wheel arch where the shock absorber bolts on. Biggest criticism of the three point arrangement is the belt passes over the rail that forms the mounting for the rear seats/side panels and this isn't a structural component. In the event of a heavy impact this could fold forward under the weight of the belt.

Personally I've got three point belts fitted to my Stag. Bought mine from Tony Hart a few years ago. They also came with comprehensive fitting instruction and took an afternoon to fit.

            Thanks Brian.

I guess its all down to whether you are happy with the third mounting on the rear shock absorbing tower. Not sure...

              Hi Mike,

My car has 3 point seatbelts in the back, I think they were made compulsory in Australia in the 70s.My heritage certificate states the car was shipped minus seatbelts, however it may have been shipped with the mounting points fitted by the factory.

This photo shows the nearside rear wheel arch with the top mounting pointattached just forward of the shock absorber.

My car is fitted with static type belts in the back.

The mounting points are listed as p/n 621112 in the Triumph parts catalogue. They are drawn as square but all the mounting points, that I can see easily, front in the tunnel, rear in the seat pan, and in therear wheel archesare round.

                  Hope this helps,

                  regards,

                  Raoul

Interesting, the top mount seems tohave a factory look about it. Any chance of a picture of the mount from the other side please? and the route the belt takes?

Here's a piccy, it's an old one taken prior to the shock absorber mount towers and deck channelswere repaired.

The shoulder strap lies between the tonneau cover and the seat back. When the roof isstowed the shoulder strap is under the roof frame, so when the roof is up the belt does need to be readjusted to take up the slack.

The lower mounting point can just be seen in the photo, note thepiece of matching trim glued under the mount so the white wheel arch does not show through the hole in the cubby panel.

                      Hope this helps,

                      regards,

That's pretty much how mine are fitted except I've got the top mount next to the rear shock absorber

                          They certainly look factory.

The lower mount is further towards the rear shock absorber mounting than mine, mine is inline with throw of theroad tyre tread, where yours is moreinline with the sidewall of the tyre.

Would be interesting to hear from any other Aussie Stag owners!
