Rear end woes the car not mine

Driving down to get the carbs rebuilt and a slighty noisy right hand head sortted. 5 mins from the the end of my journey wow and behold I hear and feel a horrible clunking noise from the rear end.

After jacking the rear and having a good look :shock:we found it's the diff:X.

Got the carbs and head sorted, engine now running as sweet as a nutbut alas I have to wait to test it.

Called out the RAC to get home, a sight I never wanted to see:shock:

    The Funkybanana on a flatbed.:shock::shock:

Car is now ready with it's rear end up in the air to get sorted.

      Hi Nick.

At the mo it'll have to be standard, I have a couple o spares inthe garage.

When....When I get the other project done, maybe fit a BMW or like.

Just about to find out what went wrong.

      Cheers.

      Paul.

Took the car for a test run, did not get to far :shock:not the diff all was well with it no noise.

Test drive was cut short with white smoke coming from the center consul :shock:

found the window switch shorted out and a couple of cables melted. Got the car back to the garage, spent the afternoon repairing someone else's bodged electrics.

I think a new consul loom is needed.

                            Try test run tomorrow.

                            Paul.

                              Test run A OK

As for the electrical fault, what with the bodged repair, I found a cable (slate/green) had been rubbing on the gearbox tunnel just under the consul which had shorted out. Had to cut back and join new cables. Windows working fine now, can drive without being overcome by smoke fumes.

Why do people do so shoddy work.

                              Paul.
