    New Fitted Carpets?

    Hello All,
It's about time I got round to doing some of the many things that my car needs to tidy it up and the next item is new carpets!
Can anyone recommend the company that can supply and fit a new interior carpet set?
Also, would you recommend having an underlay fitted when this is carried out?
(I intend making my own boot boards and buying / fitting a new boot carpet set myself)
Thanks, in anticipation of your replies.
    Regards, John.

Aldridge / south east trimming know about stag trim.

Car Interior Trimming from Aldridge Trimming Ltd a family run business that has been trimming Classic Cars since 1931 - Call Now For A Free Quote

south east are in the mag.

the transmission tunnel had underfelt, as did the mats.

some car carpet will scratch the floor paint if there isnt any underfelt.

the original floors had sound - deadening / anti-drumming pads applied as standard.

fitting the carpet kit to the interior isnt hard.

2 x wiring connectors 8 screws to remove the front seats.

centre console is not that tricky just follow the rom.

Be careful Aldridge carpets do not fit or at least there top of the range at £313 do not.It is hard to see how they can get it so wrong rear mats 2 inches to long and 2 inches 2 inches to wide I have had to alter every piece main tunnel 2 inches to long also because of there bulk they do not sit well on the tunnel only good point was that being to big I was

I have exactly the same issue with Aldridge carpets. Too big all round.

I bought underlay from Rimmers and fitted it, then carpets from Aldridge, but they have underlay backing so mine are also a bit thick.
I have seen other carpets fitted that look much better.

If you have reasonable templates, take them to a trimmer to copy.

Usually this can give a better & cheaper result.

Because I had a stag so long now my car is on its 3rd set of carpets, not counting the factory set.

The second set were the nicest, made by russells in rubery.

However, they were proper wool, & the moth got into them quite badly, which was pretty disappointing because they were so nice.

The latest carpets are supposed to be moth proof they were only £50 +£15 for having the heel mats sewn on. (4 pieces)

They had underlay attached, but the underlay comes too close to the edges & so its a bit visible.

I actually don't have the contact for the latest mats as another member organised these (actually 3 sets) , but due to some backwards & forwards & not getting them right first time, I cant really recommend.

My heel mats were put on the neighbours (red bound) stag mats, so I had to buy new 2 new heel mats & send mine back to have them redone.

I used Equinox interiors based in keynsham Bristol so not far from you. The only trouble is with most quality bespoke trimmers you might have to wait a while. For a total refit some are a year in advance. But carpets might be less. I had mine custom made for my car.

I was about to put an order in for a set of wool carpets from Aldridge Trimming so glad I read this.

For my MK 1, I'm missing the central tunnel and sill carpets, anyone know if these sections from Aldridge fit well? [If they do, I might just purchase these, and let Aldridge know they should take new templates for the Stag carpets.]

              Thanks,
              Dave.

i bought carpet from Rimmers, i dont know who makes them but the sides and centre tunnel are a poor fit. its like the carpet is too thick. The front and rear floor carpets are fine.

Oh Dear, I was hoping to use Aldridge! So, thanks for all your replies - Plenty to think about.
It does make me even more determined to have someone fit them for me to avoid all the problems.
I shall ask around locally (S,Wales) to see if there is a decent trimmer near.
Thanks for mentioning the Keynsham people, I'll talk to them.
                  Regards, John.

I agree with this experience on the carpets. I bought the expensive ones and they are thick and hard to get to follow contours. Also my new soft top window appears to be a little wide. Everything else is drum tight but the vertical parts of the zipper attachment could do with moving 5mm or so outboard. Craig

Has anyone cut their own carpets?
Just wondering how hard it would be to make mine up for tunnel and cills?

Should be easy choose carpet that can be cut without the edges fraying if adding felt leave it about 1 " shy of the edge but because of the tunnel shape I would not bond on the felt other than to the floor mats.

Thanks for advice. I'll get a sample 1st to make sure when cut it doesn't fray.
I've also found they do a moth resistant wool carpet blend [80% wool]

All this DIY is too much for me!
However, I have been recommended to a trim shop in Cwmbran area so hope to visit them on Tuesday.
Will let you know / recommend if all turns out ok1
