    Spark plug colour for mixture

I took my plugs out at the weekend on No 2 and No 4 and can see I need to adjust mixture. The plugs are as they were after the run back from Brands to home.

The left one must be too weak and was wondering as to how much of a turn on the carb adjusting tool I should give it, 10 minutes or slightly more?

Would I be correct in thinking the bottom one looks about right? Its difficult to judge these days with unleaded fuel, you don't get that nice honeycomb colour to say alls OK

    Any advice appreciated

    Andrew

I fitted a K&N filter to mine and wound the needles all they way up. This made a big difference to how the can ran much more responsive. I have now wound both needles back 1 1/2 turns and I balanced tha carbs yesterday. The engine now runs very smoothly. I will check the c/o when I have the time. Before I done all this my plugs were looking like your plug on the left and wasn't running that well. When it was MOTed back in April the c/o was 1.720 which I thought was weak.
    Cheers
    Rob.

Strangely, when i have been to my last 2 MOT's they always say its running around 6% co and last time (November) it was just under 8%. I have made a few changes since but feel they are small so the fact that one carb looks like it needs enriching concerns me.

If they are measuring the C/O on test (Mot) then those last 2 readings should have been a failure Andrew

You are quite right Ian. Sorry, these readings were a week or so before my test at my friendly garage to check the mixture and then each time I have weakened the mixture and it passes. Perhaps I have now gone the other way. The car performs well but dont want valve damage.
