Thinking Aloud - Simple Stag Anti-Theft device?

Having had a recent problem with my "fuel-inhibitor" device (see Electrical & Fuel Issues Thread), it struck me if you routed a couple of wires from the two terminals at the bottom of the device to a hidden switch on the dashboard, if someone stole the car they would be able to start it, but wouldn't be able to drive it very far when the fuel in the carbs ran out if the switch had been turned off.

Wouldn't stop the car being lifted onto a low loader, but the thieves would have difficulty driving the car at their destination if they couldn't find the switch, unless of course they knew Stags and all about the cut-off plunger. Just thought it would be an extra security measure that would not require any outlay or intricate wiring (except for a bit of wire and a switch).

I have often wondered about installing a secret switch feeding a spare indicator flasher, wired to a spare ignition coil, HT lead buried in the drivers seat.
That ought to discourage them !!

Only question is, would I remember to turn it off every time I used the car?

David - I am down your way end of July/ beginning of August for a 2 week stay in Bournemouth.
Never been before - any chance you could PM me places worth visiting/seeing whilst over.
I won't have a car but a friend who is joining us for 1 week is driving his 7-seater down from Norfolk.
We are planning a trip to the IOW one day, but nothing else at all planned so far.
        Regards
        Terry

Hi Terry, I don't know the area really well, but a visit to Brownsea Island in Poole harbour is always worth a visit - nice boat ride too! Cheers Kevin

Terry, there is a nudist beach at Studland, but if you decide to give that a miss, then it is still well worth going on the Studland chain ferry itself and driving to Corfe. A trip round Poole Harbour is great (think it is the biggest natural harbour after Sydney).

                Hello all,
Why install a hidden switch, which can be found anyway. On my TR6 I used a regular light switch on the dashboard, which was not used and was "blind" so far.
                Good luck, Dieter.

The fuel power line travels from the cut off plunger through under the dash along the floor, into the drivers side B pillar, into the rear guard area and then onto the fuel pump in the boot. A switch could be inserted at any point along this route! I know mine does have one! Craig

Yup, Mine has the hidden switch - when I've forgotten to switch back on she goes about 200 yards which would probably put the unlucky nicker in an awkward position roadwise. Now, about this nudist beach ...
