    It's arrived!

So after weeks of deliberation and inspections, my choice of stag finally arrived this weekend and to say I am chuffed is an understatement! The fine weather in Brighton certainly helped. I have been for a few trips out and all seems well but it's going to the local garage tomorrow to have a few niggles sorted. The main issue is a slight clunking from the gearbox/diff at low speed ( it's a 3 speed auto) - I have read this might be fluid level, UJ joints at rear or even the kickdown cable - thoughts anyone? It's a 1977 mk 2 in brooklands green. Will post some photos soon. Cheers all

Oh, and a public huge thanks to Mick the stagger for the donation of a hardtop - it was unbelievably generous and a true gent. Thanks again!

Superb choice of colour Kevin, mine suffers from similar clunks, I try to ignore them.

            Thanks Glyn

              Enjoy, Kevin.

Mine clunks agriculturally especially on the downshift (BW35 as opposed to - I imagine - 65 on yours) but I've discovered that if I break, considerately but firmly, when coming to a stop it's as smooth as you could ever wish..... . Maybe it takes all of the backlash out of the mechanicals; I dunno, but it works every time.

Under no load, freewheel, conditions it sounds and feels like some bloke is engaging some stubborn iron square peg into a round hole with a sledge-hammer.

Shame about the mould on the bodywork....

Do you have harsh changing up gear changes Paul What speeds do they happen If set up correctly on very light throttle it should be in Top at 20mph.

A quick and easy check to diagnose if its a kickdown adjustment issue is disconnect the cable at the carbs and see what it drives like.

                Ian.

No, Ian, up-change is smooth-ish; and yer, tried disconnecting kickdown cable. No different

I suspect there is, possibly, a compound sloppiness between all of the old components; UJ's, diff, half-shaft splines, etc.

I intend to fit a ZF4 HP22 as and when funds accrue but, until then, I've come to think of it as quirky. Plus it helps to keep the discs free of rust.... .

I've noticed the same rustic changes in several London cabs of a certain age, also.....

cheers all for the comments - the garage have topped up the ATF and it seems to have improved things to a reasonable level. it looks like I can live with it now, considering the age of the thing! they did comment how clean and well looked after it looked underneath, which was encouraging.......
