    4th Generation Stag

    All,

I was out polishing the Stag the other night when I was engaged in conversation by a chap who used to work for a company that supplied hoses to BL back in the 60's and 70's. After a quick look under the bonnet he rattled off a list of manufacturers that supplied various hoses to his company - apparently I still have the original power steering hoses (believable as they look to be at death's door). Anyway, he immediately referred to my car as being '4th generation' - is anyone aware of this terminology and if so how many different generations were there? (Mine's a late 1972 MK1.5 MOD)

    Hi Jon,

Yours is what Triumph referred to as a Third Sanction car (LD20001 - LD25432. Mine is one of the last of these). The Fourth Sanction cars started at LD30001 in Sept '73.

    This shows the details: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/content-...le-Information

Thanks for that info Dave - Just checked my chassis no. and it is LD44729A which means it is just under 100 short of the last one made and must have been produced around March/April time in 1977.

I know it was only 1st registered in 1978, so must have been stood in a Compound or Saleroom for some time before it was purchased and registered. My Triumph "Passport" service book shows it had a 1,000 mile service 20/1/78 with 1,547 miles on the clock, and it's 1st 3,000 mile service on the 9/3/78 with the clock reading 2,795. Strangely there are no more entries in the "Passport" book after that, but I have lots of other receipts for work done on the car throughout it's life.

Very interesting stuff Dave. Mine's LD 20943 and came off the line on December 22nd 1972 so fits with what the Old Boy told me (more or less).

As the "WHO" would say - "My Generation"! Did I once read somewhere that Roger Daltry of the WHO was a Stag owner, or have I got that wrong.
