Fitting new ld parts fuel pump

I ordered a new pump from ld parts to replace a suspect pump. I see the new pump is exactly the same design as the old one so I hope it will be easy to fit.

Please can someone give me some hints to avoid filling my boot with petrol. How do you disconnect the banjo bolts and not get petrol everywhere?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Andrew
It shouldn't spray everywhere so just put a nice towel under it and cover what you can up. When fitted, don't start the car until you can see there are no leaks with just the ignition on
    Quick job

      Oops too slow

Not too much fuel will escape. 30-50 ml

      Get a towel for that.

react the load when undoing the banjos or the pump mounts may shear.

the sealing washers are best replaced.

o-rings are available on some pumps that have a counter-bore instead of the flat face.

Use the new Nylon sealing washers that come with it, I have found the original fibre type don't seal too well on the plastic body of the new pump.

            What an absolute nightmare.
I think the new pump might be duff as well.
I primed it by disconnecting the filter in the engine bay and sucking fuel through before replacing the filter. I then connected up and turned the ignition on.

            It isn't working!!
I've checked and I'm getting 12v to the pump at the terminals in the boot.
Have I somehow pressurised the system and thus the pump won't run??
            Any help appreciated

Earth wire connected? If not, there is no circuit

Physically fill the pump with fuel then re-connect the pipes, I had the same issues but got there in the end.

Thanks guys- Andrew there are only two wires from the pump and I connected them in the same way and polarity as the previous one so there should be a circuit.

Milo- does the pump not even run if it is not primed? I can understand it not pulling fuel but it isn't even making a noise.
                  Thanks both

Try joining the wires together at the inertia switch with a blade fuse or similar - you might be getting volts but no current through a corroded ball ()

Check continuity of the earth wire too

Try taking it off and giving it a 12V+ and a Neg direct from the battery. I just seem to remember I had to coax mine in to life but to be honest I think it was ticking once it had power applied.

                        Thank you all very much.
I've searched the forum as well and this is what I've found.
If I connect a battery directly to it then it runs but doesn't seem to when connected to the loom. I have a brand new loom but suspect the inertia switch.
I understand these pumps are very sensitive to voltage - I'm getting just under 12v from the loom but more than that with direct connection. What a ridiculous situation.
Will take a look at inertia switch- what is so frustrating is that it was working earlier today......

Post 10 - on the other hand, you may have just replaced your pump for nothing...
