    Moto-Lita steering wheels.

I was thinking of fitting one of theses to my1972 Mk1 because I think they look lovely and the original wheel is a bit of a monster, so going down to 14" would give a little more room for my knees.
I was thinking of the Mk 3 14 inch dished with thicker wood rim.

Trouble is I haven't actually seen or touched one yet so difficult to judge.

If anybody has fitted one I'd be glad to know how it went and their feelings.
Money well spent or money wasted ?

I have a standard rim Mota Lita wheel fitted ( I.e. Not the thicker type) , think that is also 14" and I fitted it when I replaced the dash so that it matched. Dash is now burr walnut.

i don't have any issues with it, although sometimes I do think a slightly thicker leather rim might be better on extremely hot/cold days - does look nice though.

      I, too, have a standard rim, Moto-Lita 14" on my 72 Mk1.5

I chose the hole style spokes (I think, aesthetically, they echo the dash instruments better than the slots) but I intend to change it, ultimately, for a 16" one as I find the 14" a tad too small.

      Each to their own.

I have a leather covered slot 14" Mota Lita on my car. Love it. Comfortable on a long drive.
The original skinny-rim 16" was too big, uncomfortable to hold, and it was a pain getting in and out the car.

I too fitted the leather-covered slot 14" MotaLita, with a rim of 30mm (ish). Agree with Tanya, it's much more comfortable as it dampens some of the shock coming up the steering column. Most particularly in my case was that my hands were cramping up on the original skinny rim, especially on cooler days and the thicker rim has significantly reduced this effect. Overall, very pleased, only downside being the reflections from the polished chrome with the sun behind you.

When I bought my Stag it had a wooden Motolita steering wheel and one of the first jobs was to replace it with an original wheel (thanks Julian!).

I just think they look odd and very much an "after thought" if the wood of the wheel doesn't match the dashboard.

I wouldn't mind a leather trimmed Motolita though.

Pity Astrali don't still make these. I've had this one for over 10 years, on two Stags:

I've got a std 14" dished rim wheel- perfect size and no problems on long journeys. Found I used to get cramp on thinner leather rim image.jpg

                      Hi Terry,

It is from a Jaguar (XJS I think). I bought it over 10 years ago for not very much and it has kept perfect time ever since. I removed the ash tray then cut a piece of thin plywood to fit inside the heater control surround plastic trim and covered it with thin foam and black vinyl.

Here are a few to consider, but some are expensive:

Very smart, looks like another project. Trouble of projects is that the list is getting longer😄

Hi, I would like a 14 inches wooden steering wheel with the original Stag in the middle like graham's in the previous post. Is this possible?
