    Windscreen to scuttle repair

    Hello

My Stag has the first sign of rot at the bottom of the offside windscreen pillar to scuttle. About half-inch square of paint bubbling. Clearly I need to investigate and am wondering whether I will get away with a localised repair or will need windscreen out first and bigger surgery. I'd be grateful for any advice and pics from those who have carried out the same repair.

I'm also wondering whether I should seal the join between windscreen aperture and front wings. The car was restored 17 years ago (good grief is it that long ago?!) and the advice from the specialist at the time was to leave the join unfilled so water would flow easily onto the ground as originally designed. I can't help wondering though whether that is the best option. All views please?

    Many thanks!

If you could post a pic of the area you are talking about it would really help us know exactly which bit you are repairing.

Thanks guys really helpful. I'll post a picture tomorrow - it's just right at the bottom of the windscreen pillar just before it joins the horizontal scuttle part (if that makes sense)

Here is picture of the damage - the gutter area underneath from viewed inside the door aperture is still very sound.

Unfortunately with rust I think you will find more once it is opened up. Be prepared for windscreen and dash out in order to facilitate a proper repair. Craig

Yes you may be right Craig - if so, a job for the winter months I think. The windscreen seal is past its best anyway

Done both sides of mine as well, external signs didn't even hint the extent of the internal problem. Screen out without a doubt.

I had the same problem with my daughters for Ka so it's not just reserved for old cars. Repaired it screen in only for it to crack about a month later after the repair. grrrrrr

A few years ago I myself was was looking to get a Ford KA for my daughter but I was amazed how rusty even quite new cars were - worst spot seemed to be round the fuel filler. Bought her a Corsa instead. So, I will definitely wait for winter months before tackling the Stag windscreen frame - back to long nights in the garage
