Hi
Your stag being a 76 would have a ballast resister as part of the wiring as stated, the colour if I remember is white. Your coil should be a 6 volt coil not 12 volt. When starting car you will get 12 volt to the coil while starter motor is engaged, When engine has started the voltage come from the ballast resistor wire giving 6 volts. As you say you have a 12 volt coil my suspions point in that area to where the problem is.

Think it's Pink with a white stripe for the ballast wire, Tim. The 12V "starting" feed from the solenoid is white with yellow stripe (just looks a mucky white on mine).
Yes pink / white for ballast wire , thanks all, My thinking is as the coil is a 12 volt as it heat up, that 6 volts is to weak for it to work as it should ,therefore the 30 minutes for it to stop working????????
Tim
Could be. As the coil windings get hotter, their resistance increases, and the current flowing through the coil (and hence intensity of spark) will diminish.
