    Check camber with iPhone?

Apparently the iPhone has a very sensitive inclinometer built in to it. There are Apps out there for free or just a couple of poonds. Just installed one called "Clinometer" and it gives out audible readings in 0.1° intervals. Hold iPhone against wheel and Robert's your mother's brother.

Not tried or tested it myself - anyone caught on to this yet, or is it a dead end?

I would rather use a bubble - can't say I entirely trust smartphone sensors for either magnetic compass, or angle.

I got a genuine Gunson Trakrite Camber/Caster gauge (there are lots of poorly made snides out there) for £23 off Amazon, used with a pair of homemade turntables can make a bloody good fist at checking and setting the front end.

Sounds great Russ ...... but ...... can it take photos or phone a friend?

No Ian, but right tool for right job, and only £23 not £739 like my 6s+ cost me - and you can drop the Trakrite from more than 3 inches without a screen exploding into tiny pieces....

But the best thing is you don't have some yoghurt knitting, skinny berk with halitosis and sandals, wearing a ginger beard and an "Apple Genius" t shirt stalking you around the store like you are either prey or a shoplifter when you buy a Trakrite

Good summary of every Apple shop I've been in.

The phones use 'MEMS' sensors which measure acceleration. As gravity is an acceleration, they can measure inclination away from vertical very accurately. The ground the car is sitting on must be level though or you're not measuring what you think you are. However, like Russ, I'd sooner use the kit designed to do the job. Mind you, it would be an interesting experiment to compare the readings...

                Cheers,
                Mike.
