    Water in the "vee"

    Disaster!!!!

    Looks like head gasket gone!

water in v looks like it's coming from head, only done about 13k since rebuild, is it a case of retourqing heads or need new gaskets?

If new is the case can anyone recommend someone who can fit new gaskets in the Middlesbrough area?

All help and comments as usual appreciated

How much water? Are you sure it is from the head joint, or is it from the inlet manifold or water pump?

Is it leaking whilst hot or only when stood, cold?

Retorque and K seal as a first try?
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

The antifreeze in the cooling normally leaves a trace where it's leaking, see if you can follow it back.

Have you torqued the heads since the rebuild? Mine needed to be torqued down about four times until they stayed tight. The ROM states one re-torque is enough but that was on new engines.
          After that, no leakage.

As above, get the heads re torqued and that will probably cure it. The old Payen gaskets only needed one re torque but I have had others that needed doing annually until I had covered 40,000 miles.
If the retorque doesn't stop the leak then K seal generally will.

Another thing to consider is how reliable your Torque wrench is, so are the heads torqued correctly Is it a decent make and has it ever been checked for calibration

I have four that have recently been professionally checked. 2 Britool, 1 Norbar and a Snap-on one. the first 3, when tested are still within tolerance. (I must confess they have had little use in the last four years) . The Snap-on one failed miserably and awaits repair. This is the one that I keep in the stag for doing the wheel nuts so has had more use since I retired.

              Just something to consider.

I must admit I had some doubts about my old Britool torque wrench a few years ago, it felt like it was over tightening, so I ended up testing it myself with a spring balance and a length of pipe to extend the wrench handle.

I had guessed correctly, but the wrench was easily corrected by altering the shim pack under the spring.

As Ian says, it is something to consider.

You'll probably need to use it more than once! Certainly more than once on the cylinder heads if they are any thing like mine.
And then there are all the other fastenings on a Stag......

I would suggest you look at either Britool or Norbar, there not going to be cheap but you won't be paying a premium for the name either (i.e. Snap-on) and are just as good. I say these 2 make as you can get them re calibrated in the future and Britool has a lifetime guarantee.

Look for something that will cover all your needs range wise. ideally around 20 ft lb at the lower end and over 90 for wheel nuts. It is an expensive purchase but will last forever if looked after.
