Which are the left and right hand heads?

Stupid question.
when doing the ignition timing the manuals refer to LH & RH heads. Do they mean as viewed from the driver's seat or when looking at the car from the front? I understand the RH bank is on the offside of the car but can someone confirm that please?

I think you missed Drew's 'joke' there Bob, implying that BMW drivers don't use their indicators at all.

If the flashing blinker is on the right when you want to turn left I'd recommend checking the wiring Bob!

The Left Hand head is the one with LH cast into the front of the timing chain cavity. The Right Hand head is the one with RH cast into the front of the timing chain cavity. Simples really........

My BMW X3 has indicators? Well fancy that! I thought they were a very unpopular optional extra
