Tie bar / drag strut

Hi folks

At the end of the tie bar / drag strut, where it meets the chassis leg, there is a circle of fresh rust around the sort of 'cup' that the half round bushes fit in on my driver's side. Is this just mounted on the surface and simply come off, or could it be a more serious problem? Has anyone had this happen as I have never seen it beforeIf it has simply come off then it will be getting some Waxoyl around it for the time being!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that cup is welded to the front chassis leg. :shock:

Many thanks for posting the photo, it shows me exactly how it should look. It looks like I have a strip down and inspect job on thenI hate to think what I might find!It will have to wait a few weeks until I have time though...

Hopefully it should just be a case of removing the drag strut, spot welding the cup back into place, renewing the rubber or poly bush and refitting the strut. Might be worth checking the other one as well.

I finally got round to doing this job today - at last! Fortunately it seems that the cup had indeed just come off due to the original flange inside having rotted away:shock:

I have cleaned up the chassis leg and re welded the cup back on so hopefully it will last a little longer! The photos are not very good and everything being covered in 'rust dust' from my wire brush does not help!
