Stag report by our Colonial cousins

Just having a flick through tinternet and came across http://www.vtr.org/Stag/Stag-buying.shtml. It makes you wonder how there are still any Stags left on the road!

Secondly, has it been considered for the Club to rent out specific tools (I have in mind the tool to remove trailing arm bushes) as it seems a bit silly for every DIY mechanic to buy these, or make a compromise, for them to be used once or twice in a lifetime?

As a member of VTR, I've read that Buyer's Guide more than once. Most of it errs on the side of "excessive paranoia", but you've got to remember that:

    a) The Stag has quite possibly the worst reputation of any British car ever sold in the US,
    b) The US has *no* proper Stag parts suppliers or workshops, and anyone factory-trained has long since moved on,
    c) Over 2/3 of Stags still on the road on the US have "other" engines.. and there were only 2700 or so to start with.

It really is a different story to your Spitfires, TR's, etc.. just about every big city has a "British" workshop.. my city (Portland) has three.. one Triumph, one MG, and one just "British".. I've taken my Stag to the Triumph place once - to have the driveshaft balanced - and aside from seeing the guy visibly despair when I pulled up, he also told me how relieved he was that I hadn't overheated in his car park!

Point taken - it is however good to get the views of owners in other countries. You must enjoy the Stag to carry on! Good luck
