Age related plate

Not really Stag related but has anyone ever requested an age related plate from DVLA as my son has just bought a Volvo P544 LHD import and will have to get it registered . The queston is can you specify the reg you would like as it has a Swedish reg three letters and three numbers which would be nice to keep he has checked and no car has those on a reg .

They give you a plate that relates to the year of registration , if the one you want matches the year they may do ,in my case they would not give me back a northern Ireland plate ( part of the uk !!!!!!!!!!!) otherwise you might be able to buy it .If the date has any questions marks??? you may be given a Q plate

I'd expect a 3 or 4 figure cost, if they'll release it. I don't think they release numbers that have been used previously (ie original car scrapped).

Best thing is to ask them.

They will issue an age related plate. You don't say what year the car is but the reg no. will be in line with those issued at the date of manufacture/first use. Pre 1963 will most likely be 3 letters and 3 numbers, 1963 on will have the appropriate year related suffix or prefix. As I recall the number will be non transferable and the v5c marked as such. I can't think there is any way they will issue the same 3 letter 3 number combo as the Swedish reg. It is not a UK number, and there were only certain letter combinations used. The second 2 letters of the old 3 letter plates related to the area the car was originally registered. For example anything kk, kn, km, kp, ke, ko,kt,kr, kl are all kent registrations.

However, once registered you could buy the number or similar one. Depends what the combo is whether they will release it and how much they will charge.

Thanks for all the comments particularly Roger I will pass that on to my son . I was expecting to get my knuckles rapped as I now see there is a non Stag related forum section sorry SOC
