    Lucas LLB987 coloured glass

Hi everyone. The bulb on my speedometer has blown - confirmed with mulitmeter over the weekend. It is the screw in Lucas LLB987 type with a green glass bulb.

Does anyone know where to get more of these? I can find clear version online but nothing coloured.

I would like to avoid changing them all out for LED versions if possible as only one is blown at the moment, and I would like to match all the other dials which are working OK at the moment.

    Thanks again.

Hiya. The green colour is given by a plastic ""insert" in the instrument. The bulb is clear. You could try colouring the bulb with some acrilic paint if the green thing is missing or melted. Have fun!!

bite the bullet & do leds, you wont regret it & you'll most lilkey be able to see the speedo in the dark!

If you must stay with the '1 candle power bulbs' just use green paint if the filter has melted, as per hettis reply.

These are the leds to use:-

Julian, do you know what the rest of the gauges use?

I have already replaced puddle lamps with LED's and am looking for LED replacements for other interior lamps.

All except the clock use the same as the speedo. The clock uses a bayonet fixing like https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I fitted these ones a while back to my mk1 which has white instrument lights.

Can actually see the instruments at night now.

I keep my dimmer @ max. In all the cars I've ever owned that had dimmers, I've always kept them on brightest. The rheostat is the most reduntant item ever - seems that car manufacturers have realised - don't see them much in moderns nowadays (waiting for a rebuttal )

I had already bypassed my dimmer.

I've just fitted the warm white versions: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6x-WARM-WH...0AAOSweW5VMtlU as my Mk2 gauges have green filters in them.

They have transformed the instrument lighting and work fine with the dimmer.

This photo shows the three right hand dials with the new LEDs. The three left hand dials still have green LEDs of this type: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-GREEN-J...cAAOSwl8NVZjrL

I asked the seller if he could list a single bulb as I want one for my 'Jaguar' clock. He responded immediately with the link to his shop where you can buy with free postage and use PayPal: http://www.classiccarleds.co.uk

Jonno. Wait for rebuttal over. My current Audi A3 has one, as did the previous model, so I suspect then that VW's do as well. I think the reason The Stag one is so unnecessary is that they are so feeble as never to need dimming. Full on the Audi ones are a distraction at night time.

Bugga - thought I'd got away with it . Glad to hear you find it useful.

Likewise with my A3, Mike. The instrument lights are so bright that they can be distracting on a dark night, so they are frequently turned down.

The new LEDs I've just fitted to my Stag are very bright. Testing them in the garage, with the (garage) lights off it looks as if I may have to start using the dimmer switch again rather than having it on 'max' all the time.

Our Evoque has a dimmer as well. Only problem is it is near the boot release button. Not long after getting the car I was trying to dim the dash lights, and started thinking it's getting a but draughty in here. I'd only gone and opened the boot whilst driving along!
You would have thought that wouldn't be possible really...
