Readers Rides Section - Yes / No Poll

Just wondering if we should have a readers rides section where we can follow people's progress with their cars, whether it's restoration, refurbishment or modifications..?

it would let the main section be used for questions / requests for help etc - and should enable us to find/follow people's blogs more easily?

There are several threads in the main forum with restoration stories (Drew's, Edd's, Mine, and others). Perhaps these could be moved into this section if it is added.

I think it would be a good idea to have them all in one place, and the existing ones would be easy enough to move.

Although I think it's a good idea, we already have a few struggles with the existing sections! (non-Stag stuff every so often in the main section, technical questions in the Technical section...). It would be nice to see the rather neglected Technical Section being more in the forefront, non?

Top of the list for any Forum improvement would be the activation of Boolean searches, so you could search for "Window Motor" by using "window + motor" to avoid getting every post with either "window" or "motor" as the result of the search!

The 'Search' function is quite cumbersome, but no idea if it can be improved - Admin are the ones to ask Drew.

vBulletin does have the functionality.

I think the big restoration threads should be put together in the tecnical area just for quick viewing. Lots are always pointing people to the big projects so it shows they need to be more highlighted. Sometimes I do a search and Drews post doesn't show up at all. I really enjoyed the combination of my thread showing the restoration and the mods whilst seeking help through the same post. I still asked separate questions too. I can't see the difference to what we currently have.

Maybe it would be possible to add a resto section to the Technical section but lock posting to OP only, that way it would avoid the clutter and off topic wandering

On the subject of having different sections, why do we have 4 sticky threads covering Rules, Guidance and Announcements in the main forum when there is a devoted section called (you guessed it!) Rules, Guidance and Announcements? Those stickies are the only threads you can see when you open the forum on a smartphone.

If a rule changes, then a simple, single sticky with the title "Rule Change! See Rules section" would do the job, non?

Simple really. A lot of people don't ever bother looking in the Rules / Guidance section, so we have found it necessary to post them more widely.
