Understood, I changed my own a while back.

Would you let me know where you got your new sensor from? Mine needs replacement (car unusable) but given the exhorbitant prices I've been quoted for a new sensor, I'm toying with the idea of removing Lumenition and going back to points, at least until I install a full blown mappable electronic system.

I guess I can put up with £71 for now though.

Got mine off ebay, autoquip motorsport IIRC,
Just looked again and it is the second one down if you enter lumenition optical trigger, PMA50 is the one for the regular lumenition unit

As I think they are only about £40, including a new rotor arm, I eventually bought a spare, which I keep in the car. It seems I may never need it.

          Well it is done.
Many thanks to all for the advice.
Car started on the button so I took it for a few miles and it seemed to run faultlessly. Does anyone know how I can tell if it needs timing adjusting?
I took a photo before I took the chopper off and I think I've managed to put the new one back in the same position.
My lumenition chopper has an angled inner face (it's not smoothed out) and I presume I've managed to put it back the right way because of this.
          Any thoughts?
          Thanks

            Mike,
I totally agree with you, I got this kit from LD parts (I assume it's the same) and for 35+ pounds, it transformed the car (after 2x points).
            Cheers

                Mike and Andy,

I will certainly give Powerspark a shot on my resto. Like Mike has said, cheap ehough to carry a spare and it looks less trouble to fit. There are too many good reports about it for all of them to be misguided.

                Regards

I think they are great too provided you don't use your car much and especially in hot climates. I use my car every day and I've had Accuspark and a Powerspark both in the bin now. By the time the night is over I will have covered 6000+ Klms continuous daily use in temperatures up to 42 deg that's proved the Pertronix for me. But then there are some that you will never convince. Just a thought if you buy one of the cheap ones buy two seems most folks do. Happy motoring

Interesting comment Graham. I wouldn't call the English climate particularly hot, but the very problem I'm suffering with Lumenition is heat related. The pickup fails just as the engine becomes fully heat soaked, and as I said, I have to wait quite some time for it to cool and begin working again. Had to do a local SOC event in the Jag over the weekend!

My longer term aim is to fit fully mappable electronic ignition, so if there is a more affordable temporary solution then I might go for it, a case of weighing up whether it's worth buying a £71 pickup, or a complete Powerspark for less than £40.

Does your preferred system manufacturer offer a mappable version?

                    Regards

Latest news- Stag is back on the road!

I had a very kind offer from someone who offered to send me a good, used optical sensor, and he did just that within a day. Wouldn't even take any money for it. Car was back up and running by 10am. I'll still be in the market for a fully mappable system though, but in the meantime, a big thank you to a kind and helpful person to whom I owe a favour!

                      Regards
