    Windscreen washer pump

Just tried my washers as the bottle was empty following the engine re-build. The motor runs, the pipe is clear to the jets but the water is not getting pumped through. Is there a bleed procedure or is it a case of the pump being kaput? Can the pump be stripped and cleaned/repaired?

    Dave,

The pump can be opened up. There is a rubber-toothed impeller inside and it could be that the teeth have stripped off, in which case a new pump is required. It could also be something as simple as the connections on the wrong terminals. Sup them over and try again.

      Thanks Dave,

will look at the connections tomorrow. I could see four tiny screws on the underside of the bottle cap, I assume these are the screws that hold the pump together.

Thanks for the interesting link Milo, I may have a look to see if this is the issue with my pump. Though at the moment I am struggling to find the time to drive the Stag to get it run in so simply replacing the pump as apposed to investigating and repaiing may be the easiest, quickest option.

Well I checked the polarity of the wiring, the connections can only be put on one way round so no problem there. I undid the four screws and the gasket is in good order as is the impeller. Reassembled the pump and tried it again, the pump runs but still no water came through. looks like a new pump unless any one has nay more ideas.

Just because the gasket is intact doesn't mean it's OK. it has to form a seal on the edge of the impellor. try reversing the gasket. Also have you tried sucking the fluid/water up through the pump to prime it.

I did ask if there was a bleeding procedure originally (perhaps i should have used the term priming as you put it), I will try that tomorrow and look at reversing the gasket, thanks for the suggestions.

Are you sure its not just the jets blocked

Pipes are all clear through to the jets as previously stated.

Fussydave ,Derek here when my pump gave up .I went to our motor shop in the high street ,I got a new pump the same size and fitted it next to the jets under the chrome grill .Run the wires from the pump.Left the old pump on top off the water bottle ,Made some dummy wires up to the old pump.Used the water bottle .Had to buy a one way valve in line had to hide it up under the grill works great ,It looks all original. New pump and valve cost around 18,00..Derek Hicks
