    What a plonker Rodney

God I felt a plonker today. Just drove back from Cornwall in a mixture of heat stopped traffic and the stag performed perfect. One mile from home a slight stutter. Here we go thought !
Now I'm used to my fuel light flickering ......
Turns out the gauge neddle must have just stuck on the 1/8 which had me thinking I would make home as I was knackered. On removing the key and restarting the dash it registered empty arghhhhh I had just passed a station too.
Luckily daughters boyfriend to the rescue in 15 mins. Started right away with a little sputter and of we went.
Maybe a winter job to fix the flashing feul gauge. I usually carry spare feul too looks like I will from now

I always dash to the petrol station to fill up as soon as the gauge starts flickering, even though it shows a good 1/4 still in the tank, as have learnt not to wait until it goes steady red.

Cheers guys. I can live with the flicker but might fix it as a winter project as mentioned.
I think my new empty will be 1/4 from now on.

I usually re-set the odometer when I fill up and keep an eye on the mileage. If it gets a bit high then it's a good indication that you are going to need to fill up again soon. At least it was a simple problem with a quick fix on the day!

Agreed. With the old auto box and general, local driving, this was around 180 miles. Now it is around 240 miles. On a run, considerably more.

300 miles to a tank going to Le Mans this year, thought that was pretty good for a 40 year old gas guzzling V8, my Focus ST would only do about 240 to a tank. But, the wife used to drive that like a hooligan!
