I finally got my Stag sorted and on Friday evening it flew threw it's MOT with no advisories! Brilliant! especially considering it was last on the road in 2011. I went to the Post Office on Saturday and got it regraded to Historic vehicle - Tax exempt
. My mechanic said he took it for a good 10 mile spin on Friday evening to blow off the cobwebs and it drove faultlessly. On Saturday afternoon I fitted a replacement soft top and got it cleaned up ready to take to the Wings & Wheels show at Dunsfold Aerodrome (home of Top Gear) in Surrey this morning. I put some fuel in and took it for my first proper spin in the car since I bought it. I was impressed, it drove great and pulled like a train. But... after about a mile on a fast A road, I pulled away from traffic lights... after 50 yards it died, No electricity whatsoever!! The battery was red hot and stinking of eggs. My mechanic came and towed me back to his workshop, seems the alternator had overcharged the battery and cooked it, lucky it didn't explode really and better it happened not too far from home, also lucky there was no traffic behind me when it died as I had no Brake lights and may have been rear-ended. Got to look on the bright side.. Anyway while I'm getting this fixed a friend let me borrow his Pontiac Fiero to take to the show. I'll have my Stag in regular use soon and look forward to attending some of the remaining shows of the season with it.
