    Brake Master Cylinder Removal

    Hi all,

    I am replacing my brake master cylinder this weekend as over the past few weeks my brake pedal has started to fall in love with the carpet

    Quick question: Just boning up on the job in hand and the ROM says to take the whole caboodle including the servo off, and then remove the cylinder. Is this necessary? Can the cylinder not be removed with the servo in situ or is there a bolt access issue?

    It was a while ago when i did mine, think i just changed the master cylinder,left the servo in place

      You need a collection of sockets, extensions, ujs, adaptors, etc. to get to the lower nut.

          Did one 6 weeks ago on my Dad's Stag and servo remains Whole job including bleeding 1hr 10 mins

            Thanks for the replies, I have an assortment of socket extensions, including a bendy one so hopefully I'll be OK.

              1/4" drive socket and ratchet worked fine for me.

                Hi all,

                Well the job was done at the weekend, just under an hour start to finish. I had a mate help me who had some useful tips which meant we didn't have to bleed the brakes! I've posted a new thread in the "How to" section with said tips, so once it's been moderated it should pop up.

                  I just cut in half a 13 MM. spanner , don't quote me on 13 mm , but whatever it was I cut the spanner in half , therefore allowing access ! Thx graham
