    Dash Wood refurb

As a bit of a break from prepping the body for paint (I am sick of sanding now!) I though I would refurb the dash veneer, Its been a triumph and a disaster.

I wanted the dash to keep the nice honey colour patina but without the mistiness of the 40 year old laquer that was hiding the grain.

    Here is the triumph part

    Now the disaster

Anybody got a refurbishable spare knocking around

Did cross my mind Dave but the veneer won't have have had the forty years of sun bleaching that had led to the lovely honey colour of the glove box. Mad as it may sound, I want to restore this car without destroying the detail that it has had or gained in the 30 years I have owned it.

Try Wins International, they are downsizing at the moment and has (or had) lots of second hand bits for Stags including dashboard bits, you may get lucky there.http://www.winsintltd.co.uk/interior-trim4.html

          Ian,

The 'honey' colour is solely the plastic coating which has discoloured. Remove that and the walnut veneer underneath will take on its proper hue when coated with fresh varnish.

My glove box door has been stripped and recoated in celly lacquer in the pic above, it has lost some of the honey colour but it still much more yellow (almost golden actually) than the bits which have had less UV exposure. The grain shows nicely now. Hoping the instruments will match better with an original rather than a reveneer. Pictures don't show it well unfortunately.

Many thanks Steve! Wins have a decent one £15 + VAT. Going to order a load of other bits from them too.

Glad to have been of help Ian, they are fairly local to me and have bought many Spitfire and a few Stag parts from Geoff. A real goldmine, it's a shame he's downsizing.
