    hi im pretty sure a hpi check reveals a vin number

      So no VIN plate, a V5 without a VIN...did you see the V5? You are supposed to send it yourself and the previous owner sends a portion of it. Can you be sure it is not stolen or a ringer?

          The bit of the v5c that the new keeper gets does not state the chassis number, just reg no. and a document ref. number. However it all depends which issue of v5c he got, one of the later 2 page ones or an earlier single page one.

          Gary, can you not ask the previous owner if he has an older v5 copy or any othef paper work with the vin on it?
