So no VIN plate, a V5 without a VIN...did you see the V5? You are supposed to send it yourself and the previous owner sends a portion of it. Can you be sure it is not stolen or a ringer?

My mistake, although he didn't say that at first. But my question would be "where is the other half of the v5 that he should have got when he bought it ? "

The bit of the v5c that the new keeper gets does not state the chassis number, just reg no. and a document ref. number. However it all depends which issue of v5c he got, one of the later 2 page ones or an earlier single page one.

Gary, can you not ask the previous owner if he has an older v5 copy or any othef paper work with the vin on it?
