    Charging Problem II

    Hi All,
Just backed the car out of the garage to get it ready for Chatsworth Country Show on Sunday to find the ign. warning light won't go out and the voltmeter is reading 11v. Reving the engine dims the warning light but doesn't affect the voltmeter reading. Checked belt tension and all seems well down there. Desperately want to go on Sunday and as its only 6mls one way am I being stupid and silly to attempt to go in the current state or is there anything I can do to rectify short of a new alternator? Answers on a postcard please........
    Thanks in anticipation

Charge the battery overnight before you go, then it should be okay for the trip. So long as it's a good battery (a bad one can make the charge light behave as yours does).

Maurice. If you know you have a good battery, put it on charge straight away, then a 12 mile trip tomorrow should be no problem at all, provided it is in the daylight!
It sounds as though you will be needing a replacement alternator though.

Maurice, it would be worth checking alternator connections and brushes inside before getting a new one. Rob
