is there a way to strip repair using bike cables etc than can be so easily and cheaply bought?

The choke route is rather a journey so the strength of the original joint between cable and knob needs to be very strong ofcourse if your confident have a go but I preferd to trust the original build and repair the bit on the end.

James Paddock do a replacement Choke knob fixed by a grub screw. You can then use any bike cable.
