Having spent hours rebuilding the car and engine the one thing I was hoping was ok was the gearbox. Altogether it's ok but as s winter project I think I could improve on it and hopefully see off more damage that could only get worse. I find myself now tuning into the noise.
I'm getting slight general transmission noise in lower gears and overdrive whines a tad at about 50 mph then quietens down a tad. At presents its really not bad but many have mentioned they hear no transmission at all.
General inspection of the box prior to fitting was excellent but I'm now kicking myself for not being as thorough as I normally am. I think it was because of my complete lack of knowledge in the gearbox field.
I'm still waiting on a few pms for advice but thought to get a few more ideas on here.
First option mentioned is a oil change. I'm currently running a specialised classic gear oil at present so I presume anything else won't takeaway noticeable whining or perhaps it will ?
Gear box or engine removal. Neither I fancy but it will come apart so easy at present I think taking out the gearbox makes the most sense I have a pit too so that should help a bit.
Once it's out just how hard is it to recondition and which parts are the old favourite to produce a typical whine. Do go for a paddocks full recon job fur the think end of £800 gulp most prob using 90% if my original gears.
It's a while yet but would rather formulate a plan for the future.
