    Power steering pump

Investigating a ticking from the front of the engine I removed the power steering pump belt and the sticking stopped.
I found there to be about 20thou end float in the pump spindle although the pulley runs true, that is it does not wobble. Can't find any reference to end float in the manuals.
Advice and comments gratefully received as always
    Best wishes

Steve. I think a bit of end float is ok and certainly mine has always had some. I doubt if that is something that would create a ticking sound. Is there a crack in the belt, or a piece of metal missing from the edge of the crankshaft pulley? How rapidly does it "Tick" compared with the engine speed?
    Mike.

Hi Mike. Thanks for swift response.
The ticking was totally random and didn't seem to be related to engine speed.
No nicks in the pulleys or belt.

      Steve.
