    New Radiator / Which radiator?

So, after prematurely posting that the cooling on my stag was sorted with a replacement thermostat, it now seems that at sustained high speed, the temp gauge goes up dangerously. I have a secret spoiler fitted from LD parts but this doesn't make a difference. I therefore did the slightly dodgy thing of feeling the radiator when i got back, and established the top half was too hot to touch, whilst the whole bottom half was very cool, and i was quite able to hold it (hence the secret spoiler not working). It must be completely gunked up with crud, and am wondering at the efficacy of trying to flush such a large amount out - should i give it a go, or just get a new rad, and if so, recommendations? I think mine is the original rad, or if not, its many years old.

I have seen the following on ebay, from unknown provenance, and of course there is also the Supergill from Tony Hart.

    Answers on a postcard please.....................................

it's definitely a new radiator. Be sure that you flush the entire system before you fit the new rad, including the heater. Note: there are two cylinder block drain plugs either side of the block, rather awkward to get at but it is essential to remove these to get a good flush. Check all you hoses and take the opportunity to change any dodgy ones.
Be sure to recharge the system with the correct inhibitor. If you don't you will block the rad, probably what has happened.

Take a look at E J Ward, they have various options and a very good reputation. Mine cam from them and works very well.http://www.ejward.co.uk/new-parts/en...ng-system.html

A Radiator repair shop would be able to recore your existing radiator and give you a choice of 3 or 4 core

          Cheers Glenn

Get your own radiator re-cored. At least you will know it fits.

                  Hi Nigel

I had a chat to Wards and they seemed very helpful. The cost of their standard (not alloy) Supergill rad is cheaper than T Hart, but i am not sure if they are inferior, or just a price difference? They offer an exchange as well on my old unit, which makes the net cost quite low, compared to the Hart version. Have you had yours long without any issues?

                  Thanks again

bought mine from cooling solutions 2013 off Ebay. £235 perfect fit no drama sale. not worth the £200 I got quoted for a recore.
I have 3 that need recoring now if anyone wants them!

I fitted the Tony Hart Supergill rad to my Stag and it definitely made mine run cooler.

Just had mine done at a local rad repair shop; re-cored, boss fitted to screw in a temp switch and fittings to mount the kenlowe attached. (he tut tutted when he saw how I'd had the Kenlowe mounted on the old core)

                        £180 all in
